Veterinarians & Practice Manager
Marissa Gonzalez, DVM

Dr. Marissa Gonzalez was born in Maryland and raised in Cinnaminson, New Jersey. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Rutgers University in 1984. She moved to Richmond, Virginia in 1989 and worked at Sheltering Arms Physical Rehabilitation Hospital before moving to Blacksburg, VA to attend the Virginia Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine.
Dr. Gonzalez's veterinary interests include avian, exotic, emergency and aquatic animal medicine. Living in the Lakeside area for many years, Dr. Gonzalez is excited to be a part of Lakeside Animal Hospital. In addition to her medicine skills, she has honed her emergency medicine techniques by working at a local emergency veterinary referral practice.
Some of Dr. Gonzalez's hobbies include scuba diving, hiking, boating and reading.
Dr. Anna L. Barnes, DVM
Associate veterinarian Dr. Anna Barnes has cared for pets as a general practitioner at Lakeside Animal Hospital since June 2008. A lifelong animal lover, she developed a passion for veterinary medicine and the human-animal bond while working as a veterinary assistant. She loves working with pets and the clients that come into the hospital each day.
Originally from Arlington, VA, Dr. Barnes attended James Madison University and received her Bachelor's Degree in Biology in 2001. She continued her veterinary education at the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine and was awarded her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2008. She also holds a continuing education certification in nutrition.
Exotic pet medicine, neurology, dermatology and ultrasound are among her many professional interests. At home, she enjoys the companionship of her four dogs: Punter, a Pomeranian; Sara and Piper, a pair of Beagles, and Tia, a Bichon mix. When she's not busy with her duties at the hospital, she enjoys traveling, going to concerts, cooking and watching Redskins football.
Andrea C. Greubel, LVT, CVPM
Practice Manager Andrea C. Greubel, LVT, CVPM, has been with Lakeside Animal Hospital since July of 2011, but began her career in companion animal care in 1993. In addition to her many years of experience, she has an Associate’s degree in Veterinary Technology from St. Petersburg College, is licensed by the state of Virginia to practice Veterinary Technology, and is a Certified Practice Manager through the Veterinary Hospital Managers Association.
Throughout her more than 17 years in the veterinary field, Andrea has a complete understanding of the function of a veterinary hospital team, which includes an understanding of staff training and support needs. Her love of animals, she adds, comes from growing up on a farm near Cleveland, Ohio.
“I enjoy working here at Lakeside because of the compassionate care and up-to-date medical techniques that our doctors use,” she says. “The staff is a team oriented group that is genuinely ready to help our clients, their pets, and fellow staff members.”
At home, Andrea has a Great Dane named Darby Sue and cat named Simon that is blind. Her interests include gardening, antique shopping, watching baseball, and spending time with her family, friends and pets.
