Wellness Services
Wellness Examinations and Immunizations

To maintain our high standards, we offer a broad range of veterinary services to our patients. Our focus is on disease prevention and wellness care. Through our preventative care program, your pet receives a comprehensive "nose-to-tail" physical examination in order to establish his or her own overall health profile. We use a personalized approach to high quality pet care based on you and your pet's age and lifestyle.
At least once and perhaps twice a year, your pet needs a complete physical examination. Remember, your pet's life span is shorter than ours. A lot can happen in 12 months.
Due to the many recent discoveries and innovations in veterinary medicine, your pet can be protected from most major diseases. Today, many immunizations and preventive treatments are available that did not exist just a few years ago. Vaccination protocols are individualized for your pet. We take into account the exposures and risks your pet faces in the community and where you travel. The staff at Lakeside Animal Hospital can help you decide what preventive measures are necessary for your pet.

Surgical Procedures

Our hospital is well-equipped to perform most minor and major surgical procedures, from spays and neuters to more complicated emergency, orthopedic and soft tissue surgeries. We take pride in offering advanced abdominal, soft tissue and orthopedic surgeries. Some of the more advanced orthopedic procedures that we offer include fracture repair, repair of ruptured cruciate ligaments and patella (kneecap) luxations.
Prior to surgery, your pet receives a thorough physical examination to identify any existing medical conditions that might endanger his or her health. Since all problems cannot be detected on physical examination, we also perform pre-anesthetic blood testing. These tests not only give us a more complete picture of your pet's health, but also allow us to tailor an anesthetic regimen that is specific for your pet.
During surgery, we utilize extensive anesthetic monitoring devices including Doppler blood pressure, pulse oximetry and other cardiac monitoring procedures.
Pain management is a part of our pre-operative, intra-operative and post-operative anesthetic and medical protocol. All surgical patients, including those undergoing routine procedures, receive pain control medications. We urge you to discuss operative pain management options with our staff.

Senior Pet Care

Thanks to advances in veterinary health care, pets are living longer and healthier lives. Though ages vary when it comes to considering when a pet is a "senior citizen," a good rule of thumb is to consider large dogs as senior citizens at 6 years of age and small dogs at 8 years. Cats are regarded as seniors when they are 8 years old.
Regular veterinary exams are the key to keeping your pet healthy during his or her senior years. We can work with you to establish nutritional guidelines, therapies and medical regimens to keep your pet healthy and happy in his or her golden years.

Dentistry
A healthy mouth reflects your pet's overall health. Keeping your pet's teeth clean and healthy can prevent periodontal disease and other medical problems before they have a greater impact on your pet's general health.
Through advanced training, experience and specialized equipment, we are able to offer comprehensive dental care for your pet. We provide complete dental examinations, dental x-rays, teeth cleaning, polishing, as well as some periodontal surgery. We believe preventative care is the best approach for long term oral health. Periodontal disease is an infection that can cause pain, heart and kidney disease as well as loss of teeth. We welcome the opportunity to discuss things you can do at home to help keep your pet's teeth healthy.
